The Carrot and the Stick
I hate customers, they’re such a joke Not afraid to piss ’em off, I got people keep me from goin’ broke It is what it is, that’s his creed If that’s a problem, you can get screwed—guaranteed He ran off every good soul with a look or a word Left the place so empty only family’s absurd “We can’t support this customer’s design I’ll be dead before I see a single dime” I asked him ’bout his son who’s takin’ over the throne “Don’t you want a future for the boy to call his own?” “That’s his fuckin’ problem, no doubt He’s just gonna have to figure it out” He don’t care to leave no legacy Says every man’s gotta carve his own destiny He’ll take what’s his and hold out the carrot Leave the kid with nothin’ but the stick to inherit He’s the egotistical one, greedy and proud Look at all he’s done, scream it out loud Zero remorse, cheats on the golf course He who has the gold makes his own rules, of course I’m the smartest damn guy you ever did see Better watch that physical cliff of the economy Biggest jackass of the highest degree And yet he’ll always be wealthier than me My way or the highway—even the customers stay Don’t ask me why, they just keep comin’ back anyway His best friends are the employees he makes them be They only show up to his party ’cause the drinks are free He don’t suffer fools and he don’t lose sleep Long as the money rolls in, the man’s livin’ deep Yeah, he’s the egotistical one, greedy and proud Look at all he’s done, still screamin’ it loud I’ll take what’s mine, hold out the carrot Leave you with the stick—that’s the life you inherit He’s the boss, it’s his way or the highway And somehow the world just keeps payin’ the guy Biggest jackass of the highest degree… But he’ll always be wealthier than me He’ll always be wealthier than me… But I’ll be richer in the ways he’ll never see— True faith, real family, and friends that stand by a man like me Yeah, I’ll be richer… richer than he’ll ever be…
