# **The Sunday Phone Call** **[Intro – Spoken | Truck idling, light acoustic]** Sunday morning. Coffee in the cup. Guitar ridin' shotgun. Storm work had me living down in Lake City... I was headed to play in the worship band. Didn't even make it past the first farm... When the church reached me first. --- **[Verse 1]** Storm rolled through, roofs were leakin', Insurance claims from dawn till dark. Sunday came, I fired up the pickup, Didn't make it past the first farm. Phone lit up, I answered smiling, Figured someone changed a song. Turns out Heaven wasn't calling... Just the church to say I was wrong. --- **[Verse 2]** "Brother, after much discussion, We've all reached a firm conclusion. With your home's unfortunate condition, You no longer fit this mission." I said, "Well, thanks for letting me know. Hope the service goes just fine." Hung it up before the sermon... Guess communion started early this time. --- **[Chorus]** Didn't even make the first farm, Never saw the welcome sign. They voted me out before breakfast... Talk about redeeming time! Mercy's in the handbook, Grace is on the wall... Funny how the fine print Gets overlooked by us all. --- **[Verse 3]** Here's the part that gets me laughing, Even all these years gone by. I was building them a storage shed Without spending one thin dime. Concrete donated. Pole barn half the price. Guess it's easier to cancel people... Than negotiate supplies. Wasn't even on the membership, Just the fellow making calls. Turns out barns need builders... Until builders hit a wall. --- **[Bridge – Spoken | Band drops out]** So I called the elders. Said, "Fellas... Since I'm apparently disqualified... You might need another project manager." Silence. Funny... Nobody prayed that donation back into existence. Only one soul spoke up. She said, "Aren't we supposed to help people... Instead of crucifying them?" Room got mighty quiet. --- **[Final Chorus]** Didn't even make the first farm, Still made the Sunday news. Amazing how a prayer chain Can outrun a pair of boots. Everybody had opinions, Nobody checked the facts... Guess assumptions travel first-class... Truth rides in the back. Didn't even make the first farm, But the Lord stayed in the truck. Turns out Jesus has a habit Of riding with the stuck. Churches build fine buildings, Kingdoms build restored hearts... You can pour another sidewalk... Grace is the hardest part. --- **[Outro – Spoken]** Next time somebody stumbles... Maybe hand 'em a hammer... Before you hand 'em a verdict. That sounds a whole lot more... Like Jesus. **Product Notes** **The Sunday Phone Call** is a satirical country storytelling track inspired by real-life experiences, blending humor, irony, and themes of grace, forgiveness, and perseverance.
