[Verse 1] A heart can wander far from home, And leave good promises undone; But one who sees beneath the deed Can know the hurt, the fear, the need. [Verse 2] Gomer turned from Hosea’s care, Yet love was waiting, patient there; “Go once again,” Jehovah said, And call her back from where she’d fled. [Chorus] Jehovah searches every heart, He sees the place where changes start; When shame says, “There is no way through,” His mercy takes the first step, too. He does not close the door in haste; He offers time, a kinder way. Though we have wandered, we can turn— His love still waits; his care still yearns. [Verse 3] Israel was stubborn, slow to see The harm their choices came to be; Still, God reached out and called them near, With room to change, with hope sincere. [Instrumental] [Bridge] He weighs the motives, knows the ache, And sees the honest steps we make; No past mistake can hide from view— Nor keep his tender help from you. [Final Chorus] Jehovah searches every heart, He sees the place where changes start; When shame says, “There is no way through,” His mercy takes the first step, too. He does not close the door in haste; He offers time, a kinder way. Though we have wandered, we can turn— His love still waits; his care still yearns. [Outro] He knows your heart; he’ll help you start.
