[Verse] If this is the “Last Day on Earth ” darling Pour me that red Let the upright bass walk slow while the piano runs ahead City ticking like a pocket watch pinned to your vest Mute those trumpets to a whisper pressed against my chest [Pre-Chorus] Spin me once more through the cigarette haze If we’re going out Let it be this way [Chorus] On the Last Day on Earth I just want your laugh Riding those brass lines Bending in half If the sky falls down Let it fall where we dance Snap to that swing Take the very last chance If it’s the Last Day on Earth I’m choosing romance [Verse 2] Band in the corner playing something soft and sly All that 1940s feeling in the corner of your eye Your shadow on the wall doing duets with mine As the mellow muted trumpets draw a silver line [Pre-Chorus] Love If the clock strikes never again Let’s waste our final minutes like they’ll never end [Chorus] On the Last Day on Earth I just want your laugh Riding those brass lines Bending in half If the sky falls down Let it fall where we dance Snap to that swing Take the very last chance If it’s the Last Day on Earth I’m choosing romance [Bridge] No grand confession No cathedral choir Just a low smoky room and a slow-burning fire If the world goes black when they kill the light Kiss me on the offbeat and we’ll fade with the night [Chorus] On the Last Day on Earth I just want your laugh Riding those brass lines Bending in half If the sky falls down Let it fall where we dance Snap to that swing Take the very last chance If it’s the Last Day on Earth I’m choosing romance
