BEFORE THE ALPHABET [VERSUS RESPONSE TO @AB&B]
[INTRO] You asked for the Word Smith? I brought the breath before the alphabet. 'Cause before somebody wrote it— somebody meant it. [VERSE 1 — READ] I don't bend words just to prove that they bend, I put weight on a sentence— see if truth make it stand. You brought materials? Cool. I inspect what they built. 'Cause a palace made of language still collapses under guilt. Con-text— what's beside it determines what it meant. Pre-sent— what I do with now decides what gets sent. In-tent— that's the architecture nobody photographs. A beautiful vocabulary can't make a crooked motive straight. See, I learned words got money in 'em: capital, interest, principal, account. But if capital can't purchase one breath when the clock running out— what's the amount? Ten million for tomorrow? Watch the market lose its nerve. Life walks in the auction— and money learn what it ain't worth. That's a bar and a balance sheet. [VERSE 2 ] They told me build a legacy. I asked: for who? Name on a wall or something living after you? My people ain't a family tree just 'cause branches share blood. Some roots survive underground where nobody sees love. So I re-member— not nostalgia. RE-MEMBER: put the pieces back together that the pressure dismembered. Mother's voice. Father's absence. Lessons both left. Some inherit property. Some inherit unfinished questions. That's in-heritance. What came in before I earned it. Wisdom is deciding what gets passed and what gets terminated. I don't worship the past. I interrogate it. Keep the gold. Break the chain. Then renovate it. [HOOK] [Lead] WHAT'S A WORD WORTH? [Crowd] WHAT IT BUILDS. [Lead] WHAT'S A LIFE WORTH? [Crowd] MORE THAN BILLS. [Lead] WHAT'S THE REAL FLEX? [Crowd] WHO YOU BECOME. [Lead] Before the alphabet— [Choir] THE MEANING COME FIRST. Words make worlds. So watch what you serve. You can master every language— still be mastered by a word. [VERSE 3] He said "in formation." I heard information standing military straight. That's how framing work— line the facts up, then tell you where to face. He said infrastructure. I heard: what's underneath the structure? So I dug beneath the metaphor and found the motive under construction. That's the difference. I ain't trying to make a syllable look smart. I want a sixteen that rearrange furniture inside your heart. Double entendre? Give me double consequence. First meaning hit now. Second meaning meet you Monday morning driving into work again. That's delayed detonation. No explosion for applause. I want the line to follow you home and reopen when it's quiet. [Beat strips to piano + bass] 'Cause knowledge ain't the number of definitions you collected. Wisdom is when what you know changes what you would've selected. And consciousness ain't saying "I see everything." It's catching yourself right before your own bias pulls the string. [FINAL CIPHER] So give me the wordsmith— I respect anybody building. But don't confuse ornate ceilings with a house somebody can live in. Give me language with windows. Let the light test the room. Give me bars with enough air for another mind to move. From debut to adieu? Yeah. But here's my review: The dash between those dates is the only line you actually get to write through. So write well. Live better. Love people while they're present. 'Cause "present" got two meanings— and both of 'em are a blessing. [HOOK — FINAL] WHAT'S A WORD WORTH? WHAT IT BUILDS. WHAT'S A LIFE WORTH? MORE THAN BILLS. WHAT'S THE REAL FLEX? WHO YOU BECOME. Before the alphabet— THE MEANING COME FIRST. You asked for the Word Smith. [small breath] I asked what the word was serving. [ONE SNARE] [HARD CUT]
