We used to fish Every Sunday after church Down at the old pond Never caught much But we always came back. To the spot Sitting in the grass by the waterside. We used to fish. Wishing that we might get a bite But Really what we had Was a moment of peace. And that was all right…. Yeah that was all right… There was birds chirping Sun shining Nothing going on Except line unwinding Cracking us a beer Looking at the water Laughing at the joke About the farmer’s daughter Will we still have the pond? When everything we do Seems to accelerate The way that we carry on? Will we still have the sun? Beaming down its glory On everyone Will be still have the pond Or will we need to say That none of that will carry on?… I hope we do. And I’m going to Do everything I can to Keep what’s real alive. I refuse to just shut down my mind. And I won’t. I’ll Grab me a rod and reel Head to the place we used to go And Take my time with every cast So that I can soak up What’s left of the past… Will we still have the pond? When everything we do Seems to accelerate The way that we carry on? Will we still have the sun? Beaming down its glory On everyone Will be still have the pond Or will we need to say That none of that will carry on?… I hope we do. And I’m going to Do everything I can to Keep what’s real alive. I’m going to Do everything I can to Keep it all alive.
