The Ballad of the Scarlet Heart [A fan-made song for the Dark Wizard Games D&D module, “Phantom of the Scarlet Heart.” See links below.] Verse I In Scarlet Keep where roses climb, And crimson blooms defy all time, There dwelt a lord both brave and true, Lord Veymar, noble through and through. And by his side, fair as the dawn, Lady Katarina graced his hall. Her laughter rang through tower and court, The brightest jewel among them all. Chorus Oh, beware the Scarlet Heart, For love and sorrow dwell therein. A vow once sworn may never fade, Nor rest be found for mortal men. Verse II One moonless night beneath the stars, They stood atop the western wall. He placed within her gentle hands A ruby heart, both bright and small. "While this heart remains unbroken, No power shall our love divide." They sealed the oath with whispered vows, And swore forever side by side. Chorus Oh, beware the Scarlet Heart, For love and sorrow dwell therein. A vow once sworn may never fade, Nor rest be found for mortal men. Verse III But war's black banners crossed the land, And duty called Lord Veymar forth. He rode to meet the gathering dark, His knights beside him riding north. The battle raged through blood and flame, Steel shattered 'neath a storm-dark sky. And as Lord Veymar met his fate, "Katarina," was his final cry. Chorus Oh, beware the Scarlet Heart, For love and sorrow dwell therein. A vow once sworn may never fade, Nor rest be found for mortal men. Verse IV Yet when the ravens left the field, No grieving lady sought her lord. No loving hand closed weary eyes, No prayer was said, no grave restored. And so they say, in mist-veiled lands, Where twilight shrouds the lonely moor, A restless spirit walks at night, Still searching as in days before. Final Chorus Oh, beware the Scarlet Heart, For old vows linger, cold and grim. For some loves sleep beneath the earth... And some refuse to rest with them. ------------------- This is a fan-made song for the Dungeons & Dragons module, “The Phantom of the Scarlet Heart” by DARK WIZARD GAMES. This song was created so a bard could give some of the module's background to the players in a tavern at the start of the game.
