Easter On The Porch

[Verse 1] Kids in their Sunday shoes Chasing eggs through the yard Grandma laughing on the porch swing Holding that old deck of cards Dad’s carving ham in the kitchen Steam on the old glass door Mom’s got flour on her apron Says “Y’all better wash up before” [Chorus] Happy Easter lunch with the family Pass the potatoes Pass the peace Stories going ‘round like they’re candy And the years feel sweet And the years feel sweet Sun on the table Hearts all in one place Happy Easter lunch I don’t want to leave this space [Verse 2] Folded napkins Cracked jokes Uncle’s late like every year (every year) Cousin’s showing off her baby Tiny hands reaching for a smear Of chocolate on a paper plate Someone says grace too long But we all peek and start smiling Then jump right back into the talk [Chorus] Happy Easter lunch with the family Pass the potatoes Pass the peace Stories going ‘round like they’re candy And the years feel sweet And the years feel sweet Sun on the table Hearts all in one place Happy Easter lunch I don’t want to leave this space [Bridge] One day chairs will move New faces take these seats But I’ll remember this long table Every laugh Every bite Every seat [Chorus] Happy Easter lunch with the family Pass the potatoes Pass the peace Stories going ‘round like they’re candy And the years feel sweet And the years feel sweet Sun on the table Hearts all in one place Happy Easter lunch I don’t want to leave this space
