[Verse 1] When are friends really friends? Why the grin with the sting? You say my name like a knife Then you call it just a thing I look around and I ask Is this love or a test? We shake hands in the day Then we hurt each other best [Pre-Chorus] Tell me why we push and pull Why we break what we need Tell me why we turn so cruel When we know how to bleed [Chorus] What are we? What are we? When the heart turns mean What are we? What are we? Tell me what you mean Are we human beings? Or just running wild? Are we human beings? Or a scared child? [Verse 2] I’ve seen truth on the floor In the way we look away A small lie in the mouth Can ruin a whole day We build walls with our hands Then we cry for a door We say “that’s just how it is” But I know there’s more [Pre-Chorus] Tell me why we push and pull Why we break what we need Tell me why we turn so cruel When we know how to bleed [Chorus] What are we? What are we? When the heart turns mean What are we? What are we? Tell me what you mean Are we human beings? Or just running wild? Are we human beings? Or a scared child? [Bridge] If we learned how to listen If we learned how to stay Maybe wrong could turn to mercy Maybe anger fade away I’m not here to judge you I’m just trying to see If we keep on hurting each other What will we be? [Final Chorus] What are we? What are we? When the heart turns mean What are we? What are we? Tell me what you mean Are we human beings? Or just running wild? Are we human beings? Or a scared child? What are we? What are we?
