[Verse 1: Contralto female lead, deep and strong] Thirty meters of steel with a diesel for a heart Littlest tug in the harbor and I'm painted red as a cart Big captains on the radio laughing at my size Calling me the bathtub, and I let it roll on by Then the gale comes in at midnight and the whole bay turns to stone Container ship as long as four blocks drifting out alone Lost her engines in the weather, she's sliding at the pier And every boat that's bigger is too big to get in here [Pre-Chorus: Contralto female lead, rising] Tuck my nose against her side Feel the hull as tall as sky [Chorus: Contralto female lead, full power] I don't need to be big to move you Just get close and get to work and push through Every inch I give is an inch you'll never lose I don't need to be big to move you [Verse 2: Contralto female lead, harder] Swell is breaking on my wheelhouse and the wipers can't keep up Diesel roaring underneath me like a lion in a cup Radio is screaming, back off, little one, you're gonna sink I just throttle up another notch and I don't stop to think One inch and then another, and the giant starts to turn Black smoke from my stack, and I can smell the engine burn Every big tug in the harbor standing off and watching me Little red boat pushing something forty times the size of me [Pre-Chorus: Contralto female lead, rising] Tuck my nose against her side Feel the hull as tall as sky [Chorus: Contralto female lead, full power] I don't need to be big to move you Just get close and get to work and push through Every inch I give is an inch you'll never lose I don't need to be big to move you [Bridge: Contralto female lead, slow and huge] Nobody ever asks who was little at the end Only who was there when the weather came again Lay her on the dock as soft as laying down a child Gale is still howling, and I'm smiling all the while Big captains on the radio go quiet one by one Little red boat in the harbor lights, and the job is done [Final Chorus: Contralto female lead, floor note on the word move, deepest note of the song] I don't need to be big to move you Just get close and get to work and push through Every inch I give is an inch you'll never lose I don't need to be big to move you [Outro: Contralto female lead] Little red boat, coming home, little red boat, coming home [End]
