[Intro] Trust. This is the foundation. The teachers of God have trust in the world, because they have learned it is not governed by the laws the world made up. It is governed by a power that is in them, but not of them. It is this power that keeps all things safe. [Verse 1 — Undoing] First comes a period of undoing. Seems like things are being taken away. Rarely understood at first— their lack of value is merely being recognized. Different light, different sight, things start moving in my life. Changes in external circumstances— these changes are always helpful. I couldn't make the shift entirely internally, So the plan started changing what appeared externally. Thought I knew what I needed, thought I knew what should stay, Now the things I held tightly start falling away. But it ain't being taken. I'm learning to see. What had no value never offered anything to me. [Hook] Tiny wings of a sparrow— I don't need 'em anymore. Mighty power of an eagle— tell me what I'm struggling for? Shabby offerings of the ego laid beside the gifts of God. When that power's been experienced, petty strength can't take me far. All things, events, encounters, circumstances— helpful. I don't know where this road goes. But I'm learning how to trust. [Verse 2 — Sorting Out] Next comes a period of sorting out. Now I decide on the basis of helpfulness. Does it increase it? Does it hamper it? Things I valued before start looking different. Many of them hinder my ability to transfer what I've learned when a new situation enters. I valued the valueless, afraid of loss, afraid of sacrifice. But it takes great learning to understand this right: All things, events, encounters and circumstances are helpful. Let me say it again— all things, events, encounters and circumstances are helpful. The word "value" can apply to nothing else. [Verse 3 — Relinquishment] Now comes a period of relinquishment. Thought giving up meant giving up the desirable. That's conflict. Thought truth wanted sacrifice, wanted my best interests gone. But such a demand would be wholly impossible. So I actually give up the valueless— then look what happens: Where I anticipated grief, happy lightheartedness. Where I thought something was asked of me, I find a gift bestowed on me. That's the switch. That's the lesson. What I feared losing was never the blessing. [Hook] Tiny wings of a sparrow— I don't need 'em anymore. Mighty power of an eagle— tell me what I'm struggling for? Give up what you do not want, and keep what you do. How simple is the obvious. How easy to do. I don't have to see the ending. I don't have to know that much. Mighty companions beside me. I will not go on alone. Trust. [Verse 4 — Settling Down] Now comes a period of settling down. Quiet time. Reasonable peace. Rest a while. Consolidate the learning. Start to see the transfer value. Its potential is literally staggering. My whole way out. "Give up what you do not want, and keep what you do." How simple is the obvious. How easy to do. I haven't come as far as I think. So rest. Gather the mighty companions. When I'm ready, I go on. I will not go on from here alone. [Bridge — Unsettling / beat changes] Then— a period of unsettling. Wait. I did not really know what was valuable and what was valueless. All I really learned was I don't want the valueless, and I do want the valuable. My own sorting out was meaningless in teaching me the difference. I thought I learned willingness. Now I see— I don't know what the willingness is for. [Beat drops] Lay all judgment aside. Ask only: What do I really want in every circumstance? [Pause] What do I really want? [Final Verse — Achievement] And finally— a period of achievement. Learning consolidated. What looked like shadows becomes solid gains, counted on in emergencies and tranquil times the same. Honest learning. Consistency of thought. Full transfer. And the tranquility is the result. This is the stage of real peace. Here is Heaven's state fully reflected. From here, the way to Heaven is open and easy. In fact— it is here. Who would go anywhere if peace of mind is already complete? Who would seek to change tranquility for something more desirable? What could be more desirable than this? [Final Hook — peaceful, confident] Tiny wings of a sparrow— I don't need 'em anymore. Mighty power of an eagle— I remember what it's for. Shabby offerings of the ego can't compare with gifts of God. It is this power that keeps all things safe. So I trust. Undoing. Sorting out. Relinquishment. Settling down. Unsettling. Achievement. Every step was helpful. Every step was teaching trust. [Outro] A power that is in me, but not of me. It is this power that keeps all things safe. Peace of mind is already complete. What could be more desirable than this?
