Sea of Greed (v2)

V4.5+

The headlights slice the dusty road, Dust stings my eyes, smells of leather and smoke. I’m counting bills that never warmed my hands, Thinking ’bout the nights I let it all go. They promised the stage would set me free, But under these lights, I’m hollow as can be. I’m drifting in a sea of greed, Each wave pulls harder, I can’t catch my breath. The more I take, the emptier I feel, Lost and spinning in this sea of greed. I’ve traded quiet nights for smoky bars, Cheap whiskey for applause that leaves scars. The devil grips my calloused hand, Says, “Boy, that’s the price you pay to stand.” But when the crowd vanishes into the dark, I feel the weight settle heavy in my heart. I’m drifting in a sea of greed, Each wave pulls harder, I can’t catch my breath. The more I take, the emptier I feel, Lost and spinning in this sea of greed. Mama said, “Boy, keep your soul clean,” But fame’s a tide that drags you beneath. Now I’m sinking in promises and silver lies, Too far gone to find a quiet piece of sky. Still drifting in this sea of greed, Waves of want and empty deeds. The more I reach, the less I hold, Still lost, alone in this sea of greed. Dust in my hair, wind biting my face, Every step forward feels like I’ve lost the race. I keep moving, though the tide pulls me down, Alone in the waves of this greedy town.
