Hawk Rune the Mage is a mystical superhero hatched from a hawk egg in the tundra, warmed by the flames of a witch's campfire. He considers the witch his mother, and his primary goal in life is to seek vengeance on those who brought about her death. Her last words were to summon the hawk that laid the egg from which Hawk Rune was hatched, and imbue him with her knowledge and ability to weave spells.

The witch clutched a rune of Growth when she died, and under the influence of this rune, Hawk Rune grew to adulthood at a rapid pace, despite starting life no larger than a hawk chickling.

With a connection to magical energies flowing through the universe, Hawk Rune can fly and cast magical spells. He has a keen intellect, not only for magic. He picks up on most subjects fairly quickly and often uses the internet for research, but he's not a hacker. When it comes to anything cyber, he's not your guy. But when it comes to magic... yeah, he knows a thing or two. But he won't go in a church made of stone. Did it once, and got deathly ill. Churches made of other materials don't seem to have the same effect on him. Churches made partially of stone have a lesser effect on him.

While he considers Hawk Rune his full name, he also will answer to Hawk, The Hawk, or even Mr. Rune. Some people refer to him as Dr. Rune, but he doesn't have a Ph.D. or a medical degree, having never gone to college. He's never even considered getting a degree, as he's not found a college with a practical course of study in the mystical arts, and he likely understands the true magical nature of the multiverse better than any college professor.
