[Thank you satinrain 👉 https://suno.com/@satinrain] [As Dawn Unfolds (Cinematic Orchestral) 🎶 https://suno.com/song/9e88f60f-b699-4941-b6f4-ea8cc8d6c6f4] [SatinRain's original instrumental just brought this story to mind. A huge jump ahead in my story, but... this story came to mind.] [Voices are my Paladin and Elven Sorceress in my "The Long Road Beyond the Stars" musical story playlist.] [Intro] As dawn unfolds... into a new day, I almost hate how beautiful it is. Don't. I'm trying. [Verse 1] The smoke is lifting from the valley, morning breaking through the gray. My sword is somewhere in the rubble. I don't need it anyway. There's dried blood beneath my armor. I can't tell which part is mine. Every breath feels like a battle, but I'm breathing. So that's fine. We said we'd hold until the sunrise. I don't think I thought we'd see it. Now the whole horizon's burning gold... and somehow we're still here. [Verse 2] There are names I cannot say yet. If I do, I think I'll fall. There are voices in the silence that I still expect to call. I can see the fields below us, little rooftops catching light. Somewhere someone wakes their children with no knowledge of last night. They won't know the sky was breaking. They won't know how close it came. They'll complain about the weather. They'll forget our names. Good. ...Yes. Good. [Pre-Chorus] We didn't fight to be remembered. We fought so they could forget. So morning could still feel ordinary. [Both] So the sun could rise like this. [Chorus] As dawn unfolds over everything we saved, let the light fall on the living and the lost beneath the graves. We are broken. We are breathing. Maybe both can still be true. We walked through the end of everything and somehow made it through. No song will ever hold what it cost us to survive. But the bells are ringing in the valley. The world is still alive. [Verse 3] I used to think surviving darkness meant the darkness disappeared. But I still feel it in my heartbeat. I still turn when no one's there. There are things behind my eyelids I don't think will ever fade. There are choices we were forced to make that daylight cannot change. Will they see it when they meet us? Will they know we're not the same? Maybe. And if they don't? Then we carried it so they wouldn't have to. I don't feel much like a hero. I feel tired. I feel old. I feel every empty place beside us more than medals, more than gold. But below, a door is opening. Someone's sweeping off a stair. There's smoke rising from a chimney. Someone's baking bread down there. After everything... there's breakfast. That's absurd. I know. It's wonderful. [Bridge] For those who didn't reach the morning— We remember. For the pieces of ourselves we left behind— We carry them. For every nightmare that may follow us home— We face it. [Both] Not because we're unbroken. Because we're alive. And sometimes being alive is the bravest thing we have left to do. [Final Chorus — Both] As dawn unfolds over everything we love, let the mountains catch the sunlight, let the birds return above. Let the market fill with voices. Let the children race outside. Let them never understand how close they came to losing life. We are wounded. We are changed. There are scars the world won't see. But perhaps that's why we crossed the darkness— so they could wake up free. No monument could hold every sacrifice we made. So let the world just have its morning. Let that be enough today. As dawn unfolds... we're still here. We're still here. And the world is still alive. [Outro] The sun is warm. Yeah. I'd forgotten. So had I. [Pause] What happens now? We go home. Are we still the same people? No. But we go home anyway. [Both] As dawn unfolds... into a new day.
