"It Is What It Is" I went driving up north, on the same old one and only road Got stuck in a jam, a true fact disaster, a really added bonus load. Pulled over, completely surrounded, saw the flashing sirens visibly A foreign import of a police car, a fatal accident right next to me. Well, it is what it is, in close proximity to the scene The past history of a situation, what it all could have been. I’m just a guy, myself personally, just trying to find my way And every single thing I know, I hear it each and every day. Met an old man, a mutual cooperation of a friend Told me a new innovation that would help me to the end. He said, "Son, you better check your VIN number, and your ATM machine Don't get caught with a free gift, if you know what I mean." Well, it is what it is, in close proximity to the scene The past history of a situation, what it all could have been. I’m just a guy, myself personally, just trying to find my way And every single thing I know, I hear it each and every day. He gave me a brief summary of his life, a really unplanned surprise Said, "It's a terrible lie, right before my very own eyes." He was a veteran, completely finished with his war He said, "I'll repeat this again once more." Well, it is what it is, in close proximity to the scene The past history of a situation, what it all could have been. I’m just a guy, myself personally, just trying to find my way And every single thing I know, I hear it each and every day. Yeah, it is what it is, an exact replica of the truth A false pretense, a fatal accident, since I was a youth. A joint collaboration between me and my guitar, A final conclusion under a lonely star.
