[Verse] When they were young I was their hero. In their mind I could do no wrong. Their eyes always seem to light up, Whenever I would come along. I never thought I did enough. I know that is absurd. Every time I tucked them into bed, This is what I heard. [Chorus] Read me a story daddy, so I can fall asleep. It doesn’t matter what story. I just want to hear you speak. Knowing you are near me, I will never fear. I know I am protected, when it’s your voice I hear. Read me a story daddy, while I lay hear in my bed. Do all the funny voices, so I can see the story in my head. Don’t skip a page daddy. I know this story through and through. Read me a story daddy. If you love me, you’ll read me two. [Verse] Even when my days were long, They always nrightened up my day. All they had to do was hug me, And everything was ok. So I rushed home every night, I would not be deterred. I had to be there every night, Just to hear those words. [Bridge] Times gone by and they're older now. I reminisce of what had been. I sometimes wish I could go back, Just to hear those words again. [Finale]
