[INTRO – wobbly 1950s flying-saucer hum, faint radio static, then sparse honky-tonk piano enters] [MALE LEAD – dry, serious storyteller] They came down late on a Saturday night, Silver suits shining in the porch-light white. Stepped from the saucer, stood straight and tall— Said, “People of Earth, we have come to call.” [FEMALE BACKING – soft, distant] Ooooh… ahhh… [CLARINET – short playful answer] [SPACE EFFECT – rising theremin sweep] [VERSE 2 – MALE LEAD] Old man Earl said, “You boys lost your way?” “We crossed the stars for many a day.” Earl scratched his chin, said, “That’s mighty far… You come through Dalton in that funny car?” [HONKY-TONK PIANO BREAK – loose, lots of space] [CHORUS – MALE LEAD] “We are spacemen! From beyond your sky!” “Yeah, we heard you, boys— But we ain’t buying why.” “We came from another world!” “Well, you sure ain’t from here.” Those honky-tonk spacemen Were losing patience fast, I fear. [FEMALE BACKING – very soft] Ooooh… ahhh… [SPACE EFFECT – cheap flying-saucer wobble] [VERSE 3 – MALE LEAD, frustration building] “We traveled seventeen million miles!” Earl just stood there with a little smile. “You government?” “No!” “You selling something?” “NO!” [BRIEF SILENCE] “We… are… visitors… from… outer… space.” Earl said, “Well, that explains the look on your face.” [CLARINET – two-note comic fill] [FINAL CHORUS – MALE LEAD, spacemen finally snapping] “WE ARE SPACEMEN! FROM ANOTHER PLANET!” Earl said, “Son, you already said it. No need to get excited.” [FEMALE BACKING – soft, floating] Ooooooh… ahhhhh… [OUTRO – honky-tonk piano alone, then distant saucer hum] [MALE LEAD – spoken, dead serious] They left Earth shortly after midnight. [OLD MAN – spoken, calm] “Strangest salesmen I ever saw.” [FINAL SPACE EFFECT – saucer rises away, piano hits one last crooked chord]
