There once was a stipejack
[Intro] [fingerpicked acoustic guitar] [Verse 1] There once was a Stipe-Jack large and proud He always kept his axe broad and sharp He built himself a house out of Stipe-wood near world's edge in the shade of a cap [Verse 2] At first a soldier spotted his hut And he did arrive with a limp in his gait He warned old Stipe-Jack of the Basilisk and Sprie But the old Stipe-Jack replied and said go away [Verse 3] [cello enters with legato melody] The soldier left and early next day The clergy knocked and wished for a prayer No, the Stipe-Jack said in a huff, but leave the bread now be gone [Verse 4] On the third day he left to cut Stipe When out of the black he caught a spook A creature of leather and hair and wing did bite him and he fled [Verse 5] [cello switches to staccato accents] No soldier helped him for they were all spurned And no clergy healed him, his fate he did win And so the old Stipe-Jack died in his house Friendless, alone, fodder for Synapsid Basilisk and Sprie [Outro] [acoustic guitar slows to a stop] [cello fades out on a sustained low note]
