One More Mile

Verse 1 Red lights fading in the mirror glow Another state line and a heavy load Big wheels humming like a midnight train Fighting crosswinds and pouring rain I’ve spent my life out here rolling wild Living fast mile after mile And something in this highway life Keeps me chasing one more mile Chorus One more mile, one more town One more gear hammered down One more sunrise through the windshield glass Lord knows this life rolls by too fast Through the smoke, through the fire, through the hard times I keep hanging on for one more mile Verse 2 Jake brakes shaking on the downhill ride That old diesel motor humming its own sweet song Chrome stacks glowing under a full moon night Trying to make this delivery right Sometimes we swear we’re done with this life Gonna park these trucks and leave it behind But the sound of that engine calls our name Cause diesel’s running deep through our veins Chorus One more mile, one more town One more gear hammered down One more sunrise through the windshield glass Lord knows this life rolls by too fast Through the smoke, through the fire, through the hard times I keep hanging on for one more mile Bridge Some men slow down and settle in But these old roads get under your skin There’s freedom somewhere in that engine sound And peace when there’s nobody else around I don’t know how to say goodbye To these white lines and endless nights Final Chorus One more mile, one more load One more night out on the road One more prayer whispered to the sky One more call back home tonight And when they lay this old trucker down I hope they say he loved the life he found Cause right till the end I’ll still be chasing wild Just trying to roll one more mile
