[Verse 1] My second night on the warehouse floor I knew the names from the night before Betty judged and Pete panicked loud But Wendy stood apart from the crowd Parked by her charger against the wall Not in a hurry to work at all I grabbed her keys and climbed inside The dashboard blinked and seemed to sigh [Chorus] Whiny Wendy, here we go again Got eight hours left before the shift will end Every pallet's heavy, every aisle's long Every assignment somehow feels wrong Whiny Wendy, everybody knows You complain the loudest wherever you go But if the warehouse needs work done right You'll still be rolling through the night [Verse 2] First load was paper, easy and light Nothing that should've started a fight But halfway down receiving lane Wendy gave her favorite refrain A little squeak A little groan The kind that says, "Please leave me alone." Joe drove past and started to grin "Sounds like she's awake again." [Verse 3] The veterans all had their advice "Keep your turns smooth and she'll be nice." "Don't rush loading." "Don't slam the forks." "Never tell her how much work remains, of course." I laughed and said, "She's just a lift." The whole crew stopped mid-shift. Joe pointed toward Wendy and shook his head. "That's what everybody says at first." [Chorus] Whiny Wendy, here we go again Got eight hours left before the shift will end Every pallet's heavy, every aisle's long Every assignment somehow feels wrong Whiny Wendy, everybody knows You complain the loudest wherever you go But if the warehouse needs work done right You'll still be rolling through the night [Bridge] Around midnight inventory called Three extra trailers had just been hauled The entire crew let out a groan But Wendy somehow beat us home The job got done without a hitch Not one dropped pallet, scrape, or glitch For all her whining, moaning, and fuss She worked harder than the rest of us [Final Chorus] Whiny Wendy, maybe I've been wrong Maybe all that complaining keeps her strong Maybe underneath the squeaks and sighs She's just trying to give advice Whiny Wendy, I think I understand Why the crew talks to you like a friend By sunrise I was smiling too When Wendy gave one final squeak on cue [Outro] I plugged her charger in before I left. The green light started blinking. For a second... it almost looked relieved. And somewhere across the warehouse floor, Bitchy Betty let out three sharp warning beeps. Tomorrow night... I'd be meeting her.
