HIGHWAY HEX (Coven on Chrome)

V5

(Style Note: Begins with a heavy, distorted, blues-infused metal riff. The drums are aggressive. Vocal delivery is raw, belted, and slightly gravelly, like late-era Janis Joplin.) INTRO (0:00 - 0:20) (Orchestral sting over a crunching guitar rhythm. Fast double bass drumming.) (A single, wailing, distorted vocal ad-lib: "Oh, YEAH!") VERSE 1 (0:20 - 0:45) Got a sixty-seven hearse, painted jet black Loaded down with curses and the promise of no turning back. We blew past the state line, said goodbye to all the saints Traded in our piety for cheap tobacco stains. Got five wizards and three witches packed into the trunk Rolling out the smokehouse, high and gloriously drunk. The road is a velvet ribbon, the air is thick and sweet, We’re fueling up the motor with the devil's damn deceit. PRE-CHORUS (0:45 - 1:00) Listen to that V8 moan, honey, it knows what we want— A whole lotta trouble and every single confrontation. My left hand's on the wheel, my right hand’s holding yours, Chanting dirty secrets to the concrete corridor. CHORUS (1:00 - 1:25) (The Symphonic elements explode—huge layered vocals, brass and strings soar over power chords. Wailing vocal runs.) OH! HIGHWAY HEX AND HEAVY BREATH! We’re chewin' on the dust, we’re dancin’ up close with death! Take another pull, let the acid rain fall— We don't need no saving, baby, we're stealing the whole damn ball! WE ARE THE COVEN ON CHROME! Leaving ashes where we roam! Gimme that sweet, black thunder! Tear the asphalt right asunder! (Sustained high note/wail: "ASUNDER!") VERSE 2 (1:25 - 1:50) The cops don't pull us over, they just gaze and keep their distance, 'Cause we wrapped this whole damn ride in a shroud of pure resistance. Got a flask of rye and a pinch of ground mandrake root Mixing up a venom that tastes exactly like the truth. Pulled over by the desert, the moon is spilling low, You know what happens when the righteous lose control. Yeah, darling, shed that linen, let the moonlight hit your skin— We’ll burn the damn establishment and start the world again. PRE-CHORUS (1:50 - 2:05) This engine is a prayer, baby, a thunderous machine, Smells like burnt ozone and cheap gasoline. We don't need no map, we follow the pull of the haze, Just give me that raw magic in these wicked, winding days. CHORUS (2:05 - 2:30) (Repeat heavy, layered chorus. More urgent, faster vocal delivery.) OH! BRIDGE (2:30 - 2:55) (Tempo slows suddenly. Drums drop to a half-time beat. Guitar is bluesy and mournful. Vocal is raw and almost spoken/whispered, building intensity.) They told me "Get cleaned up, girl, come back to the light." But the light is just a lie, manufactured and white. They call us broken, baby, tell us to repent— But the only damn sermon I hear is the engine violently spent. And that thick, sweet smoke... it tells me I’m free! We trade salvation for pure blasphemy! (Whisper-shout: "Blasphemy!") (Builds back to tempo) GIVE IT TO ME! GUITAR SOLO (2:55 - 3:15) (Fast, melodic symphonic metal solo with heavy tremolo picking, occasionally breaking into a raw, feedback-laced blues bend. Key change on the final eight measures, pushing the intensity.) OUTRO CHORUS & CODA (3:15 - 3:35) (Full power, final run-through of the main theme. Vocals are totally unrestrained, full of Joplin-esque ad-libs and cries.) OH! HIGHWAY HEX AND HEAVY BREATH! We’re chewin' on the dust, we’re dancin’ with death! COVEN ON CHROME! (Screamed) Gimme that thunder! Yeah! Come ON, baby! (Final, sustained, high, cracking vocal scream over massive crash cymbal and distortion. The music cuts off abruptly.)
