Annie’s Song of Hope

[Verse] Annie was a little girl with sunshine in her eyes Dreamin’ of tomorrow under open summer skies Then polio came and stole her steps away Left her with the sorrow that no child should ever face Walking was impossible, laughter felt so far Nights were long and lonely underneath a quiet star She wondered if the morning would ever truly come If hope had left the world behind and she was the only one [Pre-Chorus] She held on through the tears Through the hurt, through the years [Chorus] Then a doctor named Jonas Salk Gave the world a better way No more shriveled legs and fear Kids could run and laugh and play Annie cried for the life she’d lost For the years that slipped away But she wept for joy to know Hope was here to stay [Verse] One day she saw some people in blue and gold arrive With kindness in their voices and a fire in their eyes They said, “We are Rotary, and we’re headed out today With two precious drops of vaccine to keep precious drops of vaccine to keep POH-lee-oh away” They brought a shiny wheelchair right up to Annie’s door And asked if she would join them as they traveled distant shores So they all flew off to India beneath the bright sunrise To help protect the children there and place hope in their lives [Pre-Chorus] And her heart began to see What tomorrow still could be [Chorus] Then a doctor named Jonas Salk Gave the world a better way No more shriveled legs and fear Kids could run and laugh and play Annie cried for the life she’d lost For the years that slipped away But she wept for joy to know Hope was here to stay [Bridge] Two little drops can change the world Two little drops can save a child Hands of service, hearts of grace Bring light into the darkest place And Annie felt her spirit rise With brand-new hope behind her eyes The pain she knew became a call To help protect the lives of all [Final Chorus] Now Rotary makes the world A brighter, better place Annie knows it every day You can see it in her face From the tears of yesterday To the smile she wears today Hope had come through faithful friends Who showed her love’s own way [Outro] Blue and gold and hearts so true Helping dreams begin anew Annie smiles, her story told A world of hope in blue and gold Thank you, Rotary
