Grace Ain't a Paycheck (The Workers in the Vineyard)

V6

[Intro — Spoken over dark piano] A vineyard, a Master, a call to the field, A promise made, and a wage revealed. But when the last got what the first man earned, The fire of envy was the lesson learned. Wordforge! Let's go! [Verse 1] Sun coming up, landowner on the street, Looking for workers with a job to complete. Come to my vineyard, there's work to be done, I'll pay you what's right when the day is done. First crew hired when the morning was young, Hands on the plow, every job begun. Third hour came, more workers got the call, Sixth and ninth, He went out for them all. Then the eleventh hour, the sun hung low, Why are you idle? Why didn't you go? Because no one hired us, they answered that day, Go work in my vineyard, the Master did say. [Chorus — Heavy Beat Drop] Grace ain't a paycheck, you can't earn the crown! The King gives mercy, let your pride come down! First or last, every heart needs grace, Nobody can boast when they stand in His place! Grace ain't a paycheck, it's a gift from the King! Don't envy your brother when the heavens sing! He gives what is His, and His goodness remains, We're saved by His mercy, not a wage for our pains! [Verse 2] Evening rolled in, time to settle the score, The manager called, one by one to the door. The last hired workers got a denarius paid, One hour of labor, but the full wage made! The first crews turn, the same wage did appear, And the sound of their grumbling made their anger clear. We worked all day beneath the burning sun! They barely broke a sweat, how can this be done? We carried the burden, we endured the heat! How can you pay us and them the same receipt? The Master replied, I did you no wrong. For you agreed to this wage, all along? The problem wasn't injustice, the payment was fair, It was envy in the heart that revealed them there! [Chorus] Grace ain't a paycheck, you can't earn the crown! [Verse 3] Now bring it to the church, let the Word cut deep, Some walk with Christ for years, some just took the leap. Some heard the Gospel young, some heard it aged, But no matter the time Jesus paid the whole wage. You can serve every Sunday, give and pray, But none of those things can buy your way. Your works don't purchase the blood Christ shed, You need His righteousness, not a résumé instead! The cross was His burden, death was the cost, Christ paid the price so our salvation wasn't lost. We don't serve for wages, we serve because we're saved, Our lives become an offering for the grace that He gave. So when a sinner repents, don't stand there and complain, Don't resent His mercy because someone else was changed. Celebrate the lost who have been brought home, For the grace that saved your brother is the grace you've known! [Bridge — Beat Drops, Spoken Word] Matthew 20. The first workers received what they were promised. The last workers received the landowner's generosity. And the question is not whether God has been good to you. The question is… Can you rejoice when God is good to somebody else? You don't own the vineyard. You don't set the wage. You don't control the Master. You are a recipient of grace. [Verse 4] First shall be last, and the last shall be first, Pride builds a throne, but the truth makes it burst! No credit to claim, no debt to collect, Stand before the King with a heart of respect! Different roads, different times, same need for the Lord, We were dead in our sins, but He brought us restored. Not because we're worthy, not because we're great, But because God is gracious and His mercy won't wait! Don't measure your brother by the hours he served, Don't think your obedience gets you what you deserve. Be faithful in the field, let your gratitude grow, The goodness of the Master is the greatest thing to know! When the last come running, let the church rejoice, Let the Gospel ring out with a unified voice! From the dawn to the dusk, let the whole world see, The King gives generously, and His grace sets us free! [Final Chorus - Heavy Drums] Grace ain't a paycheck, you can't earn the crown! The King gives mercy, let your pride come down! First or last, every heart needs grace, Nobody can boast when they stand in His place! No pride! No envy! Let His goodness be praised! We were lost, now we're found by amazing grace! From the first to the last, let the whole world proclaim, All glory to the Master, blessed be His name! [Outro — Spoken Over Fading Piano] The first will be last. The last will be first. Don't resent the mercy God gives to another. Remember the mercy He gave to you. The vineyard belongs to the Master. The grace belongs to God. And all glory belongs to Jesus Christ.
