Cleaning My Soul

CLEANING MY SOUL In world so torn, in a world so cruel Life happens at pace not fair Don't carry the weight that sinks your soul When you feel for people, truly feel You see what’s real, not just the good The broken parts, the hidden side You understand… then let it slide Cleaning my soul Little by little as I go Like a quiet machine in my mind Working through what I find Let it settle, let it be Like a prayer inside of me Close my eyes and let it slow I’ve been cleaning my soul Every night before I sleep Hands together, silence deep A quiet place inside my heart A space I clean for room When I forgive you by forgiving myself If you practice, it must be true Something you do just for you Not for eyes, not to be seen But for the space in between I’ve been cleaning my soul Little by little as I go Every thought I turn around Every loss, every sound If it’s heavy, let it go If it’s right, I let it grow In the quiet, I still know I’ve been cleaning my soul At night I walk back through my day The words I said, the things I gave If I was harsh, I feel the weight And ask myself… was that the way Some call it doubt, second-guess But I call it gentleness A way to learn, a way to grow A way to become someone I know Breakdown (soft, almost spoken) I forgive… not for them I forgive so I can mend Let it pass, let it move That’s the only way I improve Sometimes you take the shorter side So later you can walk with pride I keep moving… I don’t stay Or I’d only block my way I’ve been cleaning my soul Since I was young, I’ve known Peace is something you choose In the ways you don’t lose I am quiet, I am whole In the way I let things go And whatever comes, I know I’ll keep cleaning my soul I don’t know if it’s right or wrong But it’s the way I’ve been all along And whatever the world may show… This is the only way I know
