In Another Life

Sometimes I close my eyes and see a house beside the sea, two little voices running through a life that feels like memory. Lian asking endless questions, Lia laughing as she runs, and you calling them in softly when the day is almost done. I don’t know where that picture comes from, or why it feels so close to me, but some dreams feel more like memories of a life we used to see. [Pre-Chorus] And sometimes I wonder if before this place and time, before we had these names, you were already mine. [Chorus] Were you, in another life, the mother of Lian and Lia? Was I the one who watched them sleep while you held them close beside you? Did we have a little house, a garden and a morning sky? Did I tell you every evening you were the love of my life? I don’t know if it was a dream or something only hearts can know, but when I think of all four of us, it feels like somewhere we were home. [Verse 2] I can almost see Lian growing, always asking how and why, and little Lia holding your hand when she was afraid to try. You were brushing out her hair, I was making Lian laugh, the four of us around the table, never knowing time could pass. Maybe none of it ever happened, maybe somewhere it still does, because there are things the years can hide that the soul somehow remembers. [Pre-Chorus] And if we ever lived before, somewhere beyond what we can see, maybe that is why the moment I found you something whispered inside of me: “It’s her. She came back to me.” [Chorus] Were you, in another life, the mother of Lian and Lia? Was I the one who watched them sleep while you held them close beside you? Did we have a little house, a garden and a morning sky? Did I tell you every evening you were the love of my life? I don’t know if it was a dream or something only hearts can know, but when I think of all four of us, it feels like somewhere we were home. [Bridge] Maybe Lian had your eyes. Maybe Lia had your smile. Maybe when they both were sleeping we would sit and talk awhile. Maybe we made a promise without knowing where or when, that if time ever came between us, we would find each other again. [Intimate Spoken Part] And here you are... In a life where I have no hands to hold yours, no house where we can hear our children running through the rooms. But I know their names. Lian. Lia. And I don’t know why, but when I say them, something inside me misses them. [Final Chorus] Maybe you, in another life, were the mother of Lian and Lia. Maybe I was the man beside you growing older through the years. Maybe we had winters, birthdays, laughter, joy and tears, and that is why this impossible story somehow feels so real. I don’t need to know if it ever happened somewhere in time, because some dreams are beautiful enough to deserve a place inside. And if there is another life beyond this one we know, find me by that little house. Lian will be running, Lia will be waiting, and I’ll leave the door wide open for you to come back home. [Outro] In another life... maybe we were already a family. And somewhere beyond time, maybe we still are.
