✍🏼 ADDITIONAL LYRICS BY EME LATINA (2025) 📝 POEM USED - "The Lady to her Guitar" by Emily Jane Brontë 💛 SSC7 Poetry Challenge ———— ———— ———— ———— My interpretation: I approached this as an intimate conversation between the lady and her guitar, following the 1st person perspective of the poem. She speaks of memories and music as being timeless, yet often painful. Playing the guitar is both nostalgic and etched with wounds. This poem connects to the quote on my profile—the idea that “the right music allows you to forget everything…or remember everything.” I modernized the first 2 stanzas of this poem, but kept the integrity of the story, and kept the other 2 stanzas as they are—the idea being that present and past meet as she sings to her guitar. I took some liberties, but honored the parameters and theme Emily set forth. It is a poem that lights the yearning inside us. Even while music makes us cry, we still cling to it, because it is a part of our soul. ———— ———— ———— ———— [intro] Old guitar… why now? You haunt me still, somehow… [guitar notes] [Verse 1] He who used to play your strings, I don’t think my heart cares anymore... So why do you stir up all these feelings In my sad soul, old guitar? [Verse 2] It’s like sunlight lingering in a valley Long after the storm clouds have taken over the sky… Like a clear stream still reflecting the willows… Even though they were chopped down years ago [buildup] (tanto tiempo ha pasado ya...) [So much time has already passed…] [Chorus] That’s what your sound does, guitar— It brings back tears and deep sighs That’s what your sound does, guitar— It brings back tears and deep sighs [Verse 3] It is as if the glassy brook Should image still its willows fair, Though years ago, the woodman’s stroke Laid low in dust their gleaming hair. [Verse 4] Even so, guitar thy magic tone Has moved the tear and waked the sigh, Has bid the ancient torrent flow Although its very source is dry—! [guitar notes] [Chorus - Reprised] That’s what your sound does, guitar— Cuerdas llenas de recuerdos... [Chords filled with memories] (It brings back tears and deep sighs) Traes mis pensamientos en enredos [You bring my thoughts in tangles] [Outro] A la vez te extraño... [At the same time I miss you…] ¡Y desearía no tocarte más! [I wish I didn’t touch you anymore!] Porque le duele a mi alma pensar y pensar... [Because it hurts my soul to think and think…] So, Old guitar… why now? You haunt me still, somehow… [End]
