風の妖精の巡礼 ―無限軌道― ★“An English translation (interpretive) is provided below.” The Pilgrimage of the Wind Fairy [Foreword] The inspiration for this work comes from Shuntaro Tanikawa's poem “Morning Relay.” When I was in elementary school, it was printed on the back of the textbook cover— “While a young man in Kamchatka dreams…” I could sense that somewhere, mornings were beginning beyond my own knowledge— A feeling I now recall vaguely, but somehow clearly enough. This work does not depict only human mornings. It follows the journey of a wind fairy, Sweeping across the awakenings and slumbers of all life on Earth. A messenger of time, Lighting up the world with sunbeams, And watching over the night. When you read this, please put aside a human-centered perspective. Look instead to all life born from a mother, And take it simply as a fragment of the world’s vast cycle. [Poem] The wind fairy descends at the International Date Line, Where yesterday and today meet in a transparent boundary. This fairy is a friend of the moon, Carrying quiet songs of the night, Gently brushing through the dreams of those asleep. Standing by each pillow, Mother, lover, friend— She takes the form of the one you long to awaken, Gently rocking your shoulder, Whispering, “Morning will come soon.” Then, as a bearer of light, She carries the sun’s spark across the earth, Tracing a counterclockwise path That mirrors the breath of time itself. Finally, she reaches the shores of the Far East, A place once called the “Far East,” Releasing a new morning. In that moment, the world becomes one. Night and day hold hands, And the light called “today” begins anew. After witnessing it all, The fairy rests briefly beside the moon, Once more becoming a messenger of light. And then she follows the path of the wind again, Reversing yesterday and today, Circling the world endlessly, Drawing a perpetual orbit as long as time flows. The journey of the wind fairy never ends. Where no one sees, She embraces the night, announces the morning, And quietly, yet surely, Melts into the heartbeat of the Earth.
