Scattered Signals
[Intro — Isolated Low Bass, Radio Static, Distant Mechanical Impacts] [Rocky — Quiet, Unsteady] Piney? Akida? Anybody copy? [Long Burst of Static] Aw, hell. [Verse 1 — Low, Uneasy Bass Groove] Last thing I remember, We were standing side by side. Then the walls came down between us, And the whole damn world went white. Woke up underneath the building, With a ringing in my ears. Heard a voice inside the speakers Counting down my deepest fears. There's a camera in the corner. There's a lock upon the door. And whatever's in the hallway Keeps on scratching at the floor. [Pre-Chorus — Restrained Drums Enter] I keep calling out your names. All I get is empty air. Tell myself to keep on moving, But I'm scared of what ain't there. [Chorus — Dark, Urgent Alternative Rock] Scattered signals! Can you hear me through the noise? I'm calling into darkness, Trying to find a familiar voice. Scattered signals! Don't you disappear on me. There's a thousand walls between us, And two hearts I still can't reach. [Verse 2 — Angular Electric Guitar Enters] Heard a guitar in the distance, Cutting through the grinding steel. Seven notes against the static. First damn thing that sounded real. Found Jett hanging from a walkway, One wing dragging at his side. Tried to ask him if he'd seen them. He just shook his head and sighed. Then a pounding through the floorboards, Like a heartbeat made of stone. Bosun's beating on the piping, Making sure he's not alone. [Pre-Chorus — Guitar and Heavy Drums] Three of us can hear each other. That's a start, but not enough. Every minute that we're searching, God, the silence gets more rough. [Chorus — Driving, Increasingly Desperate] Scattered signals! Can you hear me through the noise? I'm calling into darkness, Trying to find a familiar voice. Scattered signals! Don't you disappear on me. There's a thousand walls between us, And two hearts I still can't reach. [Verse 3 — Haunting Saxophone Enters] Found Bosun by a broken doorway, With his drumsticks worn to splinters. Said the walls had started moving Every time he tried to enter. Then a saxophone came crying Through a ventilation shaft. Cutter crawled out through the wreckage, Tried to smile, but couldn't laugh. Four of us beneath the surface, Four of us without a clue. And I keep looking at the shadows, Hoping one of them is you. [Instrumental — Low Bass, Distant Saxophone, Fractured Guitar] [Bridge — Cold Synth Pulse Enters] Then a voice came through the speakers, Calm enough to make me jump. Said, "Your current route is compromised. Take the stairwell to the front." Found Zeek behind a console, With his hands across the keys. He'd been fighting their computers, Trying to bring them to their knees. He showed me five green signals On a map of black and gold. And two more blinking somewhere Past a place marked CONTROL. I said, "Can you get us to 'em?" He said, "I don't know just yet." And I swear that little answer Was the one I won't forget. [Instrumental Build — All Five Instruments Interlock, Mechanical Pulse Underneath] [Final Chorus — Heavy, Defiant, Not Triumphant] Scattered signals! We're still breathing, we're still here! Five of us against the darkness, Trying not to give in to fear. Scattered signals! Keep the frequency alive! Till we find our missing family, Ain't a one of us leaving tonight! Scattered signals! I can hear you through the walls! If you're out there, Piney, answer! Akida, can you hear me call?! [Break — All Instruments Cut to Static] [Rocky — Spoken, Almost Whispered] Piney? [Static] Akida? [Long Silence] [Outro — Exposed Bass, Low Synth Drone] Five of us together, But it don't feel right at all. There's two names on that screen That won't answer when I call. So keep that signal running. Keep a light on in the dark. We're coming for you, family. Just tell me where you are. [Final Unresolved Bass Note] [Radio Static Fades]
