**Verse 1:** In days of darkness, Mattathias rose, A priest of valor, his courage shows. From Modin's hills, his voice proclaimed, Against oppression, he boldly exclaimed. **Chorus:** Valor of Mattathias, a beacon in the night, Faithful to the covenant, in God's holy sight.
