Static and Espresso

(Intro) [A single acoustic guitar starts a slow, melancholy strum, and quiet humming starts. A somber piano chimes in. A muffled drum beat kicks up.] (Verse 1) The steam from the machine is hissing like a shallow breath... I’m nursing this latte, bored to death. My bank account’s screaming, my head’s a mess, Just a cog in a corporate system... that couldn't care less! The window is streaked with a gray-tinted smear, But the sky starts to crack when the lightning is near. (Chorus) [Guitar shifts to a fast, aggressive punk-style up-and-down strumming] And the clouds light up like a neon ghost, A violet flash coast to coast! I’m rewriting the day in the back of my head, Making monsters of men and the things that they said. Yeah, the thunder’s a drum, and the rain is the grit... I’m burning the kingdom, and I’m loving every bit of it! (Verse 2) See the guy in the corner? He’s a hollow-eyed wraith, Trading secrets for shadows and losing his faith. The barista’s a witch, brewing potions of spite, To poison the city and put out the light. The lightning’s the jagged edge of a broken-glass sky A rift to a world where I don't have to lie— Where the cobblestones bleed, and the ravens talk back, And I’m the one holding the axe in the black! (Music Solo) [The piano chimes in again, screeching violin then enters, playing a frantic, mournful melody. It starts slow and builds into a chaotic, messy crescendo.] (Bridge) [The solo cuts abruptly to a slow, hollow lo-fi beat. Vocals are quieter and closer to the mic] The drywall is rotting, the carpet is stained... But in the clouds, I’m the one who is unchained! Out there, I’m a titan, a storm in the chest... In here, I’m just static, a ghost like the rest. [Guitars explode back in—high energy] Just a smudge of cheap ink on a page, getting torn... Waiting for the thunder so I can be reborn. [Shouted]: YEAH, I’M WAITING TO BE REBORN! (Chorus) And the clouds light up like a neon ghost, A violet flash coast to coast! I’m rewriting the day in the back of my head, Making monsters of men and the things that they said. Yeah, the thunder’s a drum, and the rain is the grit... I’m burning the kingdom, and I’m loving every bit of it! (Outro) (Every instrument steadily slows down) The lightning fades out... The gray moves back in... I’m just a ghost in the booth again, check’s on the table... The ink is now dry, but... [Quietly]: At least I was a titan for a night.
