[Spoken Intro] For the Butchulla, the Gubbi Gubbi, and all First Nations peoples across Queensland—with respect, gratitude, and care. These are our Wide Bay side tales. [Verse 1] Down the long black road past the gum-tree line Lives a young girl with the sun in her mind She walks the track where the cane stalks sway Watches the clouds drift across the day Her dad’s out early in the cane-field rows Mum’s hangin’ clothes where the warm wind blows She dreams of the coast and the wide blue sea Wonders what wonders the world might be [Pre-Chorus] She’s got a heart that’s bound to roam But she’ll always know where her home is from No matter how far the highway winds That cane-town glow stays deep inside her mind [Chorus] Cane-town girl — walkin’ where the red-dirt lies! Sunshine shinin’ deep in her eyes! Cane-town girl — dreamin’ of the tide! Queensland heart, right by her side! Cane-town girl — walkin’ where the red-dirt lies! Sunshine shinin’ deep in her eyes! Cane-town girl — dreamin’ of the tide! Queensland heart, right by her side! [Verse 2] Some days she sits on the old fence rail Watches the utes go down the trail Hears the radio drift from the servo lot Sings along to the tunes it’s got Friends come round when the day gets late Walk the lane down to the creek gate Laugh in the dusk ‘neath the first faint star Wonderin’ just where their lives will go far [Pre-Chorus] She’s got a heart that’s bound to roam But she’ll always know where her home is from No matter how far the highway winds That cane-town glow stays deep inside her mind [Chorus] Cane-town girl — walkin’ where the red-dirt lies! [Bridge] Years may roll and roads may turn But that cane-town fire will always burn She’ll carry the sun and the breeze along Wherever her wanderin’ feet belong [Final Chorus] Cane-town girl — walkin’ where the red-dirt lies! Sunshine shinin’ deep in her eyes! Cane-town girl — dreamin’ of the tide! Queensland heart, right by her side! [Outro] Soft piano, warm wind
