Under Control

The sea doesn’t rise to prove its strength… …but gods do. I keep the calm, I wear the crown, Hold the thunder, push it down. Every whisper begs for flame, Every choice becomes my chain. Under control. They think peace is made of light, But it’s built from what I fight. I’m under control — I swear I am! Every breath, another dam. They see calm, but they don’t know, I’m breaking, keeping it under control! *(Echo whispers: “Under control … under control …”) Every god still tempts the tide, Every truth I learn, I hide. Lightning hums beneath my skin, I cage the storm — it claws within. Under control … (no, I’m not). They call it peace when I don’t scream, But silence kills more than it seems. I’m under control — it’s what they need! Power disguised as empathy. The sea obeys, the gods don’t know, How close I am to letting go! Under control … under control … (breaking) Do you know what it costs to stay calm? To hold the thunder and never strike? To smile while the sky splits open? (breath shudders) I’m not under control. I’m under water I’m under control — I swear I was! Holding oceans, drowning gods. I am the peace they can’t console, The storm that breaks its own control! Under control … under control … (control… control…) The sea forgives … but I don’t.
