Trick Or Die

Gothic doom metal, tremolo lead guitar over down-tuned baritone guitar, fuzz bass and cathedral organ drones, thunderous toms, 45 BPM slow dirge pulse with cavernous low end; tape saturation, plate reverb, analog delay, mono-room drum mics; low dark female lead in a bright, clear tone, call-and-response backing voices, soft harmony pads beneath the chorus, haunting bleak grandeur

[Verse 1] Doorbell bleeding through the hall Plastic masks on every wall Little hands with candy sacks Big black eyes and sharpened tracks I hear footsteps, soft then near A paper smile from ear to ear You say, “trick or treat,” real sweet I say, “pick one,” then I repeat [Pre-Chorus] Knock once, and the lock gives way Moon hangs low like a blade display Pockets full of painted lies You came dressed for your own goodbye [Chorus] Trick or die Trick or die Sweeten up Or say goodbye Trick or die Trick or die One wrong move And out goes life [Verse 2] Candy corn in a broken bowl Blood-red tape on the porch rail pole Your costume frays at every seam You’re not in a game, you’re in my scheme One for the mask and two for the grin Three for the night you wandered in If you reach for more than you came to buy That little trick makes you die [Pre-Chorus] Knock once, and the lock gives way Moon hangs low like a blade display Pockets full of painted lies You came dressed for your own goodbye [Chorus] Trick or die Trick or die Sweeten up Or say goodbye Trick or die Trick or die One wrong move And out goes life [Bridge] Breathe too loud, the candles bend Run too far, and the walls descend No safe word in this house tonight Just a grin in the cutting light [Final Chorus] Trick or die Trick or die Sweeten up Or say goodbye Trick or die Trick or die Ring that bell And meet your fright
