They had said she was evil—that water would freeze to ice at her command and flames would die out. Gesa had been capable of none of that. Yet the shadow that has been bound to her since the night of the failed ritual—she is learning from it. They want their witch? Then let them have her! Frost... **[Verse 1]** I spoke into the shadows, and something answered me. I feared the voice that spoke back, feared what I couldn't see. But still I gave it a name, and slowly came to know we'd been bound together when the ritual broke. It wasn't meant to happen. I wasn't meant to live. But neither of us chose this, and here we are with it. **[Pre-Chorus]** They said that I was wicked, that something wore my skin. They called me witch and watched the water freeze beneath my hands again. They never knew what happened. They never tried to see. But now I know what lives with me. **[Chorus]** I spoke into the shadows, and something answered me. I gave my fear a name and learned what it could be. Bound together since that night, by something gone astray. It should have never happened, but it happened anyway. And here we are. And here we stay. **[Cold interlude – glasslike chimes, frozen metallic resonance, breathy layered whispers]** Frost... Frost... **[Verse 2]** I didn't let the fear decide what I was going to do. I started asking questions, and the answers brought me through. I learned that what was bound to me wasn't wicked by design. It didn't have to turn against me, nor I against its kind. So I began to teach it, and it began to teach me. We found a way to understand what neither of us could see. And somewhere in that learning, through the cold and sleepless days, I found a little strength again in what we'd learned to make. **[Instrumental break – hammered dulcimer, eerie wooden flute, sharp metallic chimes, cold wind rising]** **[Verse 3]** They called me witch when water froze. They called me witch when candles died. They saw the frost upon the stone and never cared to ask me why. **[Sudden drop – whispered, almost without accompaniment]** Frost. **[Percussion enters, sharp and deliberate]** Well, now they'll have their witch. Yes, now they'll get to see. Not what they thought they'd locked away, but what I'm learning to be. I'm learning with the shadow, with the one they cannot name. I'm learning what our bond can do, and I won't bow my head in shame. **[Build – faster hurdy-gurdy rhythm, frame drums, icy chimes cutting through]** Because I want out. I want away. I want something different from another wasted day. I don't care what changes. I don't know what's ahead. I only know I cannot bear another day like this instead. **[Chorus – stronger female vocal, cold layered harmonies]** I spoke into the shadows, and something answered me. I gave my fear a name and learned what it could be. Bound together since that night, by something gone astray. It should have never happened, but it happened anyway. And here we are. And here we stay. **[Instrumental drop – percussion stops, brittle metallic ringing, whispered voices moving across the stereo field]** Frost... Frost... Frost! **[Bridge – low, intimate female voice, sparse psaltery and cold drone]** I still speak to the shadow. It still answers when I call. I no longer fear the presence moving quietly along the wall. I know our road continues with the two of us as one. And though it takes my strength to try, I'm not yet finished. Not yet done. **[Final Verse – quiet, determined, crystalline chimes beneath the vocal]** So I draw frost across their doors, let winter trace the stone. They froze the life I used to know and left me here alone. I'll leave my marks upon the iron, where their hands have turned the key. And maybe one day those doors will open. Maybe one day I'll walk out free. **[Outro – instruments fall silent, faint icy cracking, close female voice]** They wanted a witch. I'm learning. **[Soft whispered echo]** Frost... And when those doors finally open, I'll be the one who walks away. **[Final whispered voice – almost inaudible]** Frost. **[Single brittle chime, sudden silence]**
