The Watcher in the Floor
"The Watcher in the Floor" [Intro - Atmosphere] (The track opens with the deep, haunting drone of a hurdy-gurdy, layered with a low, rumbling Viking war horn echoing across the water. A sharp, rhythmic percussive banjo starts ticking like a clock. Spoken word, dark, cinematic, and slow-burn.) [Spoken Interlude - Sam (female)] (Plate reverb, heavy room mic bleed, tape saturation making the speakers breathe. Spoken low and close.) They look at the house and think it’s just a home. They see the porch light, the saltwater breeze, the sleeping children. They don't know about the foundation. They don't know what’s buried beneath the floorboards. When the sun goes down, the monster doesn't sleep. He just changes jobs. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (A distorted 808 sub-bass drops in with a heavy, chest-rattling sidechain pump. A gritty, heavy acoustic rhythm grounds the beat. Matt’s voice is a raw, rough, male vocal—gravelly and menacing.) The moon is climbing high above the Galveston tide The girls are in their bedrooms where the angels go to hide Rogue is dreaming deep, and Waverly is sleeping sound And Hermione is resting while the shadows hit the ground The world outside is sleeping, but my eyes are burning wide I got the .380 waiting with the laser right inside I’m sitting in the dark, I’m listening to the wind This is where the sanctuary ends and the war begins. [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A wailing harmonica and a blues organ growl swell in the background like a storm rolling in.) (Matt - male - rough) You want to test the gate... (Sam - female - echo) ...you want to test the soul? (Matt - male - rough) You want to see the fire... (Sam - female - echo) ...that's buried in the hole? [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Explosive transition into a heavy, foot-stomping Southern rock anthem fused with Americana dark trap hip-hop. Punchy kick drum, glitch-hop percussion, and a talk box hook screaming a mechanical melody.) (Matt - male) I’m the monster in the floor who watches over the light! (Sam - female - echo) ...watching in the dark of night! (Matt - male) I’m the reason why you never want to cross this line! (Sam - female - echo) ...crossing through the iron design! (Matt - male) You think you see a victim? You think you see a mark? (Both) I’m the apex predator hiding in the dark! Don't you dare look twice, don't you touch what's mine— I will drag you straight to hell and leave you hanging on the line! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The beat strips back to a hydraulic groove. A mandolin and a mouth harp weave a twisted, swamp-blues rhythm. Matt's delivery is cold and calculated.) Let me paint a picture for the fool who wants to try Why crossing over here is how a trespasser will die First, you got the perimeter, the wire and the shock Then you got the mechanic with the hammer and the lock Then you got the memories of every single war I fought to keep the devils off this wooden kitchen floor And if you somehow make it past the shadow and the steel, You’ll meet the .380 and the lead that isn't real. [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (An accordion breathes in and out, adding a dark-opera tension to the build.) (Matt - male - rough) The crosshairs are locked... (Sam - female - echo) ...the laser is blue. (Matt - male - rough) One step on the grass... (Sam - female - echo) ...and the reaper takes you. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum volume. Full band wall of sound—bagpipes wailing alongside the slide guitar with talk box, turntable scratches cutting through the heavy 808 bass.) (Matt - male) I’m the monster in the floor who watches over the light! [Bridge - Matt (male)] (The drums and 808 drop completely out. Just the haunting hurdy-gurdy drone, the percussive banjo, and a single, low Viking war horn blowing in the distance. Matt speaks in a dead, terrifying whisper right into the room mic.) Go ahead. Step up to the porch. Rattle the handle. Wake up the girls. I dare you to give me an excuse to let the monster out. [Outro - Sam (female) & Matt (male)] (The heavy, foot-stomping rhythm crashes back in for one final, grinding industrial-folk groove, layered with tape saturation and vinyl crackle.) (Sam - female - echoing softly, hauntingly) Sleep tight, little angels... the monster is awake. (Matt - male - spoken low and rough) And he's wide awake. (A heavy slide racks on a handgun—CH-CHAK—followed by a single, sustained Viking war horn blast that fades into absolute silence.)
