THE WATCH (a space rock opera) Lyrics by MIIKA (c) October 2026 Story idea and writing by MIIKA (c) Sept 2026 ------------ [PART I: GHOSTS FROM THE PAST] I was born beneath a restless sky, With starlight in my eyes, I used to dream of distant worlds And roads between the lights. They told me space was cold and dark, A grave without a shore, But I heard something calling there, And I had to know what for. And she was there beside me then, My closest friend, my home, We swore we'd see the edge of it, And never go alone. We learned the names of every star, We traced them on the glass, And laughed about the foolish things That wouldn't ever last. [Chorus] Oh, take me back, take me back, To where the blue world turns, Before the engines, before the dark, Before the bridges burned. For somewhere in the endless night, Beyond the fields of gold, I left a piece of who I was In something I still hold. [PART II: THE GIFT] I don't remember leaving her, I don't remember why, Only her hand around my wrist, And tears she tried to hide. She said, "You always chase tomorrow, You never stay behind." Then something cold was in my palm, And something broke my mind. A little watch of silver steel, With scratches around the face, She said, "For when you lose your way, You'll know you've got a place." I laughed and asked her what it meant, She only shook her head. "Just promise me you'll keep it close, No matter where you're led." [Chorus] Oh, take me back, take me back, To where the blue world turns, Before the engines, before the dark, Before the bridges burned. For somewhere in the endless night, Beyond the fields of gold, I left a piece of who I was In something I still hold. [PART III: PIECES OF THE PUZZLE] Now I'm drifting through the silence, And the crew is sleeping deep, While somewhere in the empty dark A voice is calling me. I've heard that voice a thousand times, Though I've never heard it before. And every road I take tonight Has led me here once more. I find the room. I find the logs. I find the blood upon the floor. I find my name inside a file I don't remember anymore. And then beneath my uniform, I feel that old cold chain— The watch she gave me years ago Is ticking once again. [Bridge] But the hands don't move like hands should move, They tremble, then rewind. The second hand goes backward As the stars outside unwind. And suddenly I remember... Her face beneath the rain, She wasn't giving me a watch that day... She was trying to save me from the same. She said, "When you hear the warning, Don't follow where it leads. The girl who finds this message Is the girl who never leaves." And now I know the voice I heard, The one that called me through... It wasn't someone lost in space. It was me trying to reach you. [Final Chorus] Oh, take me back, take me back, Before the clocks began, Before I learned that yesterday Could reach into my hands. If time is just a circle, Then somewhere she still waits, With that little silver watch And a door that opens late. [PART IV: TIME SHOCK] The captain sleeps. The engines hum. The stars begin to bend. The watch ticks once. Then twice. Then stops. And somewhere on the ship behind me, I hear her voice say: "You finally remembered." [TO BE CONTINUED...]
