[Verse 1] I missed the last ferry On purpose, maybe Standing by the dock With my keys in my palm A boy sold peaches From a dented crate He said, “What you waiting for?” I said, “A better day” [Pre-Chorus] Then the water turned gold On the side of my face And I heard my name In a stranger’s laugh [Chorus] Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip I don’t need a plan tonight I can let it drift Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip If the shore falls back from me I’ll still make it stick [Verse 2] There was a paper cup Rolling by my shoe A dog with one torn ear And a red canoe I bought a pear tart Just to eat too slow Watched the river pull At the dock below [Pre-Chorus] Then the water turned gold On the side of my face And I heard my name In a stranger’s laugh [Chorus] Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip I don’t need a plan tonight I can let it drift Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip If the shore falls back from me I’ll still make it stick [Bridge] Maybe tomorrow I’ll fold up my map Maybe I’ll go Where the gulls all snap But right now, right here With the salt on my wrist I’m fine being lost If the night looks like this [Chorus] Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip I don’t need a plan tonight I can let it drift Take the ferry slip Take the ferry slip If the shore falls back from me I’ll still make it stick
