[Intro: Upright Bass, Vibraphone, Distant Strings] [Soft Female Voices] Place your dreams... Place your dreams... [Dragon, Spoken] Welcome, traveler. No coins are required. We accept... other currencies. [Funky Bass Enters] [Verse 1] Down beneath the palace gardens Where the violet lanterns glow There’s a staircase lined with velvet To a place the angels know Golden dragons guard the doorway Ruby smoke curls through the air Every table holds a secret Every mirror stops and stares There are strangers dressed in starlight There are fortunes dressed in lies And the dealer wears a smile With a little fire behind his eyes [Pre-Chorus] Pick a card Roll the stars Tell me who You think you are Place your dream Upon the green Tonight we wager Things unseen [Chorus] At the Velvet Dragon Casino Where the wheel goes round and round You can gamble with tomorrow You can put your past back down At the Velvet Dragon Casino Every loser leaves a king Every winner loses something When the golden dragon sings [Backing Vocals] Roll it... Roll it... Let it ride... [Verse 2] There’s a woman betting Tuesdays There’s a prince who wagers rain Someone puts a first kiss down Against a hundred years of fame One man trades away his shadow For a diamond made of dawn Another bets the name he had Before the waking world came on At the bar they pour nostalgia From a bottle dark and blue And the bartender says softly: [Spoken] “Careful. That one remembers you.” [Pre-Chorus] Pick a card Roll the stars Trade your scars For shooting stars Place your heart Upon the green Nothing here Is what it seems [Chorus] At the Velvet Dragon Casino Where the wheel goes round and round You can gamble with tomorrow You can put your past back down At the Velvet Dragon Casino Every loser leaves a king Every winner loses something When the golden dragon sings [Instrumental Break] [Disco Bass] [Clavinet] [Spoken Interlude] [Dragon] Ladies and gentlemen... The house has one final game. No cards. No dice. No wheel. Only a question. [Music Stops] If you could become anything you wished... Would you still choose to become yourself? [Bridge] I looked across the velvet table And the dragon looked at me Behind his eyes were all the people I had ever tried to be He pushed one golden chip toward me And whispered through the flame: [Dragon] Keep your fortune. Keep your future. Tell me... what is your name? [Orchestra Begins Rising] [Breakdown] [Lead Vocal] I won’t bet my heart I won’t trade my name I won’t sell tomorrow For another pretty game Keep your diamonds Keep your crown I came here dancing And I’m dancing out [Final Chorus] At the Velvet Dragon Casino Let the wheel go round and round Keep your borrowed little kingdoms Keep your treasures underground At the Velvet Dragon Casino I finally learned the strangest thing The richest one inside the room Is the one who wagers nothing [Choir] Nothing! [Lead Vocal] Keep it turning! [Choir] Nothing! [Lead Vocal] Keep it burning! [Final Refrain] Velvet Dragon Casino Gold and violet Smoke and flame Velvet Dragon Casino You can leave The way you came [Extended Disco Outro] [Dragon, Distant] Interesting. Nobody ever does that. [Whispered Female Voice] The moonflowers are waiting.
