FRANK 020 – The Blind Father’s Welcome | Frankenstein

(Verse 1) He entered while the others were absent from the door, And stood before the blind man upon the cottage floor. He spoke with careful language and made his trembling plea, For one who could not judge him by what the eyes could see. (Verse 2) The father heard his sorrow within the stranger’s tone, And offered gentle comfort to one who stood alone. No horror crossed his features, no hatred filled his mind, For where the eyes were sightless, the listening heart was kind. (Chorus) For one brief hour acceptance had looked beyond his face, And offered to the outcast a glimpse of human grace. He thought the world might hold him without the weight of fear, And dreamed the home he cherished might finally draw him near. (Verse 3) Then footsteps crossed the threshold and shattered through the room, As those he loved returned there and recoiled into the gloom. The fragile hope within him collapsed beneath their cry, And every dream of welcome seemed suddenly to die. (Verse 4) Then Felix struck the Creature and drove him hard away, While all the trust he carried was broken in that day. He would not harm the family or answer blow with blow, But fled the home he worshipped with nowhere left to go. (Chorus) For one brief hour acceptance had looked beyond his face, And offered to the outcast a glimpse of human grace. He thought the world might hold him without the weight of fear, And dreamed the home he cherished might finally draw him near. (Bridge) The only man who welcomed him had welcomed him while blind, And judged him by his sorrow, his language and his mind. But sight returned through others and kindness lost its place, For terror saw the Creature before it knew his grace. (Outro) He vanished from the cottage, his vision nearly gone, And carried one brief kindness towards an unforgiving dawn. The door that promised friendship had opened into pain, And something once compassionate would never be the same.
