Hollow Branches - Return Me To The Dirt
No coffin of iron, no tomb of stone, I sink into soil as flesh undone. Worms take the place of mourners, Moss crowns my quiet brow. The earth is my shroud, Roots weave through ribs like scripture. Every vein an offering of water, Every bone a hymn of seed. Burn the false embalms, Crush the marble lies. Let me bleed into the soil, Let me be known by the forest. RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! Unhallowed, unbound. RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! Where silence flowers loud. A green burial No cross, no claim, no chain. Only the teeth of earth, Only the choir of decay. I will rise as nettles, I will bloom as foxglove, Foxes will den in my ribs, Owls will nest in my skull, I will sing as the raven, I will rot as myself. RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! Let my body rest as loam RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! So the green may feed on death. Worms take the role of mourners, Ants carry psalms to the trees. Blood seeps into mycelium, And the forest devours me with ease. A green burial No priest, no scripture, No concrete tomb. Only the clawing of soil, Only the gnawing of bloom. RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! Roots in my bones. RETURN ME TO THE DIRT! So I can become with the earth. Ashes scatter, but I will not burn I will root, I will rot, I will return.
