The village had grown calm, lulled by the crackling of fires and the low whisper of cold wind drifting down from the mountains. He moved without a sound toward the more modest dwellings, set apart from the jarl’s residence. Min’s hut was simple, functional, almost austere. A faint glow spilled from within. When he entered, she was already there, standing as though she had been waiting for him for a long time. They looked at each other in silence, not like secret lovers, but like two souls bound by a secret too heavy to share. Min broke the silence, her voice soft, almost fragile. “It feels strange... seeing you for real. You were only ever a whisper in my dreams. And yet... I still don’t know who you are. To me... you are like a god.” Johannes gave a faint smile and stepped closer. He gently took her hand. “You feel my warmth, Min. I am real. And you... you are the one who anchors me. The one who keeps me from losing control.” She frowned slightly, unsettled. “Johannes... you have always spoken like this, for years. You speak of this darkness... but I only see light in you.” His gaze darkened. “That is because you help me contain it. What we have done... what we are... it can still change what is coming. But for that, we must listen to Mikell. He sees clearly.” Min tilted her head. “About what?” “Yggdrasil. We must find it. Queen Skörta seems to have a lead... but Mikell is right. The tree is a passage. Perhaps the only way to prevent what is coming to Midgard.” A heavy silence settled between them. “You are not from here... are you?” she asked quietly. Johannes looked away slightly. “No. I am a wanderer. My father comes from Jötunheim. But since the Age of the Runic Twilight... since Odin broke the bonds between the worlds... something fractured. It freed me... in part.” Min stepped closer, searching his eyes for answers. He gently placed his hand on her shoulder. “Do not press further. Not tonight. Rest.” The next morning, cold daylight filtered through the high openings of the great hall. The jarl, Mikell, Helena, Bruno, and Queen Skörta stood gathered around the great table. Skörta spoke with steady confidence. “I believe I know where Yggdrasil is.” She did not explain how, and her gaze carried an unusual restraint. Mikell watched her in silence, wary. He knew. But he said nothing. Helena, however, seemed relieved. “If that is true, then we finally have a direction.” Bruno nodded, but his eyes remained fixed on the queen. “You are hiding something...” he murmured. Skörta briefly looked away. “I will go see Torstein. I need to make sure he...” The door suddenly burst open. Torstein stepped in. Standing. A heavy silence fell across the hall. Blíðki leapt from the queen’s lap with a startled meow. “Torstein!” Skörta exclaimed, rising to her feet. “How... this is impossible...” The warrior gave a tired smile. “My queen... you will not be rid of me so easily. I could not grant you that pleasure.” She rushed to him and pulled him into an embrace, a tear slipping down her cheek. “Idiot... you absolute idiot...” Her voice trembled, caught between fear and relief. After a moment, she stepped back. “This is a blessing. We must thank the druid Mikki. He must come with us.” Torstein gently shook his head and placed a hand over hers. “Skörta... I do not think it was him. He cared for me, yes... but that is not what brought me back.” He took a slow breath. “I think my mother... is not dead. I never knew her... but I know who she is now. I saw her.” Mikell narrowed his eyes. “Freyja, perhaps?” Helena rolled her eyes. “Mikell, do not start...” “No,” Torstein cut in. “It was Eir. She called me her son.” Bruno shrugged lightly. “Maybe your mind created that...” The jarl spoke calmly. “Perhaps. Or perhaps not. The gods are never far.” A glance passed between him and the queen. She answered with a faint smile, understanding that his words were not without meaning. At that moment, Mikki entered, laughing. “Ah! You are on your feet! The gods have good taste today! Do not thank me, I already have enough glory to carry!” He gave Torstein a cheerful pat on the shoulder. Helena let out a quiet sigh. “We will talk about all of this later. But for now... we need to move forward. Do we not, my queen?” Skörta hesitated, then answered. “Not yet. My father is dead. I want to honor him. A ceremony worthy of his name. And I want all of you there... especially you, Jarl Mikal Finnvard.” The jarl stepped forward, took her hand, and placed a respectful kiss upon it. “It is time indeed... to build again on stronger foundations.” 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 Andar vakna...
