TIMEWALKER - The Bone Forest

Inspired by the world of Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock, this song explores the mystery and mystical beauty hidden within the ancient Ryhope Wood. The forest is not simply a place — it is a living realm shaped by memory, myth, dreams, and human desire. Deep within its shifting paths, legends become real, and those who enter are slowly transformed by what the woods awaken inside them. The story follows Steven Huxley, now grown older, living in the shadow of his father George Huxley’s obsession with the forest. Years earlier, George disappeared into Ryhope Wood while studying the mysterious “mythagos” — beings created from the collective unconscious of humanity. When he finally returned, he was no longer entirely the same man. Now Steven begins to feel the same pull. The forest seems closer to the house with every passing year, as if it is slowly expanding toward him. Behind the family home lies a dark woodland filled with bones, whispers, and memories that refuse to die. As Steven reads his father’s journals and hears the forest calling his name at night, he realizes the same madness may already live inside him. The song captures the moment where fear turns into fascination — when a son begins to understand the obsession that destroyed his father… and feels himself walking toward the same fate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Verse 1 Behind the house the forest grows Closer now than years ago Roots beneath the garden stones Like something ancient coming home Father used to map the trees Fill his books with memories Now his words live in my head Like whispers from the dead Pre-Chorus I said I’d never be like you But every night the woods break through Chorus Behind the house there’s a forest full of bones Calling me back when I’m alone Every branch sounds like my name Every path leads me the same I can hear it through the walls In the dark the old wood calls And I fear before too long I’ll become where you belong Verse 2 I found your journal in the rain Covered up in dirt and stains Pages filled with twisted signs Dreams that slowly lost their minds You wrote: “The deeper that you go The less you’ll ever know If the forest dreams of you It will never let you through.” Pre-Chorus Now I feel it in my blood Like black water slowly floods Chorus Behind the house there’s a forest full of bones Older than the roots and stones Something waits beyond the trees Wearing all our memories Bridge Sometimes I see you in the hall But your shadow feels too tall And your eyes are not the same Like the woods still wear your face Final Chorus Behind the house the forest breathes Cold beneath the autumn leaves And I know before I’m gone I will follow you beyond Outro Behind the house… The forest waits…
