Change Is Good

Polaroids are fading on the dashboard glow We were seventeen and thought we’d never grow Cassette wheels turning, windows rolled down low Singing every word like the world would never know Time keeps rolling like the credits at the end But we keep holding on to who we were back then Every decade we’ve got it made It’s only human when we change, change, change Perhaps we all remember the old me and you But change is good, when you think it through Now the kids are streaming songs we used to chase Different names, same fire burning in their face We traded mix tapes for playlists in the cloud But the heart still skips the same when it gets loud The mirror shows the miles we can’t pretend But every line’s a story that we’d live again Every decade we’ve got it made It’s only human when we change, change, change Perhaps we all remember the old me and you But change is good, when you think it through Some friends moved away and some just moved inside We raise a glass to ghosts we never say goodbye But every new sunrise rewrites the truth We’re still the same kids wearing older shoes Every decade we’ve got it made It’s only human when we change, change, change Yeah we all still remember the old me and you But change is good… yeah, change is good, when you think it through And if the songlines are the stitches in the soul Then every scar’s just proof we’re still rock-and-roll Change is good… when you think it through
