Tell Your Dog I Said Hi

[Verse 1] You’re heading home through the same old door Drop your keys on the kitchen drawer He’ll be there doing circles on the floor Tongue out Tail going wild Say you met a friend out in the blue Who still remembers that photo of you Mud on your jeans and him by your shoes Both of you barking Both of you proud (hey!) [Chorus] Tell your dog I said hi Tell him I still think of that night When he stole my sock Wouldn’t give it back Spun the room like a carnival ride Tell your dog I said hi Scratch his ears one extra time If he looks around Wondering why Just laugh and tell your dog I said hi [Verse 2] You can walk past the windowsill throne Where the king pretends he owns the home Don’t you dare pass the royal phone He won’t pick up Doesn’t mind He’ll blink once Twice Like “who are you?” Maybe flick a tail That’s all he’ll do So save the words Keep the truth This hello’s for the one who actually smiles (oh yeah) [Chorus] Tell your dog I said hi Tell him I still think of that night When he crashed our plans Sat in my lap Like he knew I was having a time Tell your dog I said hi Scratch his ears one extra time If he brings you my old chewed tie Just laugh and tell your dog I said hi [Bridge] Give him the couch Give him my spot Give him my name in a story or two (hey!) He’ll wag along Think it’s all real Honestly Maybe it is [Chorus] Tell your dog I said hi Tell him I still miss that light In his goofy grin Crooked and bright Like he’s in on every secret of mine Tell your dog I said hi Scratch his ears one extra time But don’t tell the cat He’ll roll his eyes Yeah Don’t tell the cat Just tell your dog I said hi
