V6

[Intro: Soft Grand Piano, Strings Swell] [Male Vocal: Warm Baritone, Tender, Intimate] My son, guard my words—hold my commands tight. Keep my commandments, and live; keep my teaching right against your eyes. Tie them on your fingers, press them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, you are my sister; and call understanding your friend: So they can protect you from a forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words" Because at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, And saw among the fools, I saw among the youths, a young man who didn't understand, Passing through the street near her corner; and he walked the way to her house, As dusk turns into evening, in the blackness of night and darkness: [Chorus: Duet, soaring harmony, lush strings] And, see, there he met a woman dressed like a street walker, and heart of cunning. (She is loud and stubborn; her feet don’t stay at home: Now she is outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and with a brazen-face she said to him," [Female Vocal, soft and angelic] I had vowed to bring peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows. That is why I came out to meet you, and now I’ve found you! I have decked my bed with covers of tapestry, the carved bed poles are hung with fine Egyptian linen. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us rejoice with acts of love. Because the husband isn’t at home, he is on a distant journey: He’s taken a money bag with him, and won’t be back till the moon is full." [Male Vocal: Warm Baritone, Tender, Intimate] She hits him with smooth words and drags him in, and he gives way fast, caught by her lips. He follows her suddenly, like an ox lunging toward the blade, like a man hauled to the stocks with the crowd already staring; Then the arrow takes him clean through, and he jerks like a bird slammed into the snare, not knowing it has snapped shut on his life." [Chorus: Duet, soaring harmony, lush strings] So now, sons, listen to me, and don’t let this go—hear me now. Don’t turn your heart to her ways, don’t take one step down her paths. [Key Change Up, Grand Finale Duet] Because she has stacked her victims high: the ones she’s ruined are a graveyard. Her house is the way to the grave, descending to the bedroom of death. [Key Change Up, Grand Finale Duet] My son, guard my words—hold my commands tight. [Outro: Both in harmony, whispered ad-libs, piano fade]
