The simplest (but not the only) example of involution is double negation. T(T(x))=x is the generalized formula of mathematical involution. Here, that idea is applied to psychology and gets turned inward. A sudden, involuntary desire appears; the instinctive response is to recoil from it, to fold back in, to INVOLUTE. But instead of cancelling the impulse, that retreat keeps feeding attention back into it. The more you try not to want it, the more mental energy you spend on wanting it. So the loop closes on itself: desire, resistance, denial, suppression, renewed desire. You try to get back to square one, to negate your desire, yet instead you build a machine for hyper-fixation. You’re thinking about not thinking about it, which, of course, is still thinking about it. ⋄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈◎∘◎┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈⋄
