[Intro: dark drone, lone pan flute, distant tribal drums like a heartbeat] [Whispered] Yohualli ehecatl... night wind... Yohualli ehecatl... [Chant: deep ritual male voices, drums only] Tezcatlipoca... Titlacauan... Tezcatlipoca... Necoc Yaotl... [Verse 1: half-spoken shamanic vocals, heavy guitars rumbling low] Obsidian, black as unborn night I breathe the copal, kill the light The drums below like buried hearts The smoke divides... the vision starts [Chant: whispered, pan flute weaving through] Yohualli ehecatl... yohualli ehecatl... [Pre-Chorus: guitars step forward, rising intensity] I came to see my face I found an open door The mirror does not lie It shows what came before [Chorus: full pagan metal, epic clean vocals with growl layers] TEZCATLIPOCA – smoking mirror, burning eye Yohualli ehecatl – night wind passing by Show me what the heart forgot Show me what I am – and what I'm not We are but slaves beneath your sky [Chant: deep male choir over war drums] Titlacauan! Titlacauan! Tezcatlipoca – Moyocoyani! [Verse 2: harsh growled vocals, jaguar-prowl groove] Enemy of both sides, lord of fate You give the crown, you feed the hate A jaguar moves where shadows breed The mirror smokes – and I concede [Bridge: all instruments fade, only flute, single drum and whisper] Titlacauan... we are your slaves... The smoke recedes... and I remain... [Chant: building from whisper to roar, drums accelerating] Necoc Yaotl... Necoc Yaotl... TEZCATLIPOCA! [Final Chorus: double growls and soaring clean vocals, full power] TEZCATLIPOCA – smoking mirror, burning eye Yohualli ehecatl – night wind passing by I looked for fate inside the glass But mirrors only show the past We are but slaves – beneath – your – sky [Outro: solo death whistle, fading out slowly into wind] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A ritual in song form. "Smoking Mirror" descends into the obsidian glass of Tezcatlipoca – the Aztec god of night, fate and sorcery. Pan flutes and tribal drums summon the smoke, Nahuatl chants call the Night Wind by his true names, and crushing pagan metal breaks through as the mirror reveals not your reflection, but your fate. Ancient symbols carved in sound. === ANCIENT SYMBOLS: THE AZTEC WORLD === Few civilizations wove symbols into daily life as deeply as the Aztecs (c. 1300–1521 CE). To them, symbols were not decoration – they were living forces that held the universe together. THE SMOKING MIRROR – Tezcatlipoca, god of night, fate and sorcery, carried a mirror of polished obsidian (volcanic glass). In its dark surface he could see everything that happened in the world – and the truths people tried to hide. Obsidian mirrors were used by Aztec priests in real divination rituals. THE SUN STONE – The famous 24-ton calendar stone depicts the five eras of creation. The Aztecs believed four worlds had already been destroyed, and that they lived under the Fifth Sun – which too would one day fall unless the gods were nourished. THE FEATHERED SERPENT – Quetzalcoatl united sky (bird) and earth (serpent) in one being: a symbol of wisdom, wind and creation, and one of the oldest divine symbols in Mesoamerica, older than the Aztecs themselves. EAGLE AND JAGUAR – The two great warrior orders. The eagle ruled the day and the sun, the jaguar the night and the underworld. Together they embodied the eternal balance of light and darkness. THE DEATH WHISTLE – A skull-shaped clay instrument producing a scream-like sound, likely used in ceremonies and possibly warfare. You will hear its voice at the end of this track. When you gaze into the Smoking Mirror – remember that the Aztecs believed it gazed back. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 2026 Ande Records Lyrics by Ande All rights reserved. https://ande-records.se/
