The Thorn - 1990
Fear is the product of an insecure mind, Trying to let go is difficult you’ll find. I’ve tried to conquer through prayer and pain, I won the battle and it came back again. I learned I can win when I am alone, But when with others it grabs me to the bone. [chorus: raise an octave] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray. I learned the secret is deep inside, Healed in God’s realm, but not where I abide. Fear cannot hurt me, only steal my success, Its deep inside where fear doth rest. My opinion of myself sank way down low, I must stand up to what I already know. [chorus: raise an octave] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray. My past was healed, conquered by success, But my failures hang on to attest. My trust in God is total at its best, But my trust , leaves me with no rest. I see myself through others eyes, And when I do, I want to cry. [chorus: raise an octave] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray. From the errors I have made, and others have let me “down,” I hang on to those who stole my crown! Before I lay a new battle-ground, I plan to win, in the next round. Is this from life or pure overload, How long will it take me to pave that new road. [chorus: raise an octave] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray. Bring me peace and quiet with no fight, But that will not be til I get it right. Feelings of inadequacy stain my name, Remove from my mind poverty and shame. I can accept honor and pride, Not only what is seen, but what’s inside. [chorus: raise an octave] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray. I ask for guidance to come for me, A miracle is needed so I can see. I pray for security to live alone, In Boston, Seattle, or maybe Rome. The damn divorce brought me back home, Show me soon, keep my mind in tone. I trust you, honor you, and praise you each day, [chorus: slow meaningful sincere ending] My blessed God, to whom I pray. My blessed God, to whom I pray.
