[CHORUS] Leave them by the river, you don’t need them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore, the shore. Leave them by the river don’t hold them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore [VERSE] You have a backpack full of memories. Each one caused by pain. Each one has a story, unique in its own way You carry them so gently, though each one keeps you bound. They’re painful to remember but harder to put down. [CHORUS] Leave them by the river, you don’t need them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore, the shore. Leave them by the river don’t hold them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore [VERSE] You cherish every memory like polishing a stone As if each one is precious, but they just add to your load I know you think you need them, as if revealing who you are Each one has a story and each one left a scar [BRIDGE] Imagine for a moment you tell me what they mean And as you tell each story you set the last stone free Tell me all your stories, lighten up your load Then leave them by the river you don’t need them anymore. CHORUS Leave them by the river, you don’t need them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore, the shore. Leave them by the river don’t hold them anymore Leave them by the river leave them on the shore
