The dark haunts me, crawls through the walls when the night gets colder, Thoughts swarm me, knock at the door like they know I'm older, I walk through the corridors, hearing the floorboards talking, Heart racing, I'm pacing, debating if somebody's watching, I carry the weight of a thousand mistakes that I buried beneath me, Faces are fading but traces remain and they're never gonna leave me, I tried to escape it, replace it, erase it, but nothing can save me, The more that I fight it, the more that I find that the darkness has made me. I got a mind full of violence and silence, divided by visions, A cycle of panic that damages balance and kills my decisions, I'm sick of pretending I'm perfectly centred whenever I'm breaking, I smile for the people around me while something inside is awake and, It whispers my name in the back of my brain when I'm trying to sleep, Then follows my footsteps whenever I run, so there's nowhere to flee, I thought I could bury the memories deep, but they're digging back out, Now every reflection is staring me down like it knows what I'm about. The dark haunts me, dark haunts me, Everywhere I go, it walks beside me, Dark haunts me, dark haunts me, I can't outrun what lives inside me. It calls my name, I hear it breathing, Pulls me back when I think I'm leaving, Dark haunts me, dark haunts me, I fight the night but the night don't need me. I got a pathological pattern of travelling backwards whenever I'm facing the truth, A catalogue full of the damage I carry, apparently nothing to lose, I'm over the edge but I'm holding the ledge while the pressure is steadily climbing, The seconds are ticking, my head is spinning, I'm losing the grip that I'm finding, I don't wanna feed it, I don't wanna see it, I don't wanna give it a reason, But every season it finds a new weakness and turns it into a demon, I sever the ties but it never complies, it follows whenever I sever, I thought that the darkness was part of my past, now I'm learning it's part of me forever. I hear every footstep echoing, every little sound gets magnified, Every little shadow moves in my peripheral, disappears when I turn my eyes, I know that it's probably nothing but something in me doesn't wanna believe it, 'Cause when you've been fighting your mind for a lifetime, you learn how to fear what you can't see, So I run with the rhythm, I'm done with the prison, I'm cutting the cord from the system, The dark wants permission, I give it resistance, I'm living despite its insistence, It follows me home but I'm not alone, I've learned how to stare at the feeling, If darkness is hunting, then let it keep coming — I'm done being scared of the demon. The dark haunts me... The dark haunts me... But I haunt it back.
